The sequel to the genre-defining, landmark bestseller Presumed Innocent, INNOCENT continues the story of Rusty Sabich and Tommy Molto who are, once again, twenty years later, pitted against each other in a riveting psychological match after the mysterious death of Rusty's wife.

!1: Best Buy I greatly enjoyed "Presumed Innocent" and was excited when I heard that Mr. Turow had written a sequel to catch up with the characters from that book. I enjoyed the chance to see how Rusty, Barbara, Sandy, Tommy, et al had fared in the years since we were first introduced.

Few of the characters are admirable. In fact, Tommy Molto fares better than most in the reader's appraisal of character, I thought. Since Mr. Molto was among the villains of the earlier novel, that was one of the pleasant developments of this update.

Rusty Sabich's motivations in life continue to elude me more than a bit. It doesn't strike me as plausible that a man would stay married to a woman who had murdered his lover and left clues to implicate him in the crime. I don't care how good your marriage counselor is, that's a tough hurdle to clear. Barbara Sabich's motivation for staying in the marriage seem more clear--she's mentally unbalanced. However, Rusty remains a bit of a mystery to me.

I thought a grown-up Nat Sabich was too dense in his seeming inability to put two and two together around many of the important plot points. The chapters written in his voice were my least favorite ones.

Sandy Stern--my favorite character from the first novel--returns to try and pull Rusty's bacon out of the fire again. The years and sickness have dulled neither his mind nor his zeal to work for his client's exoneration.

I thought the story was interesting and had fun exploring it. The writing syle and manner in which elements of the plot unfold are, in my opinion, as enjoyable as in the original.

In reality, I think I would probably give this 3.5 stars, but Amazon only deals in whole numbers here, so I'll go with four. A fun read that, I hope, will be enjoyed by you as much as it was by me. on Sale!

!1: Best Buy I wanted to read this book from Patterson because the co-author was the one he partners with for the Women's Murder Club. It was a good, fast read. It held my interest until the end and as always, he can add some twists and turns to the plot. on Sale!

From the supplier: Ernest Hemingway's short story 'After the Storm' may have been inspired in part by the chapter titled 'The Grand Armada' in Herman Melville's 'Moby Dick.' Both episodes share a similar plot structure and confront their characters with a version of the realities of death, life and nature. Hemingway's version of this confrontation places human life in the dog-eat-dog world of nature as a whole, making people just another part of the food chain, while Melville more philosophically ponders the highly-valued human characteristics found in nature. Other sources for Hemingway's story are discussed.

One May evening in London, Adam Kindred, a young climatologist in town for a job interview, is feeling good about the future as he sits down for a meal at a little Italian bistro. He strikes up a conversation with a solitary diner at the next table, who leaves soon afterward. With horrifying speed, this chance encounter leads to a series of malign accidents, through which Adam loses everything—home, family, friends, job, reputation, passport, credit cards, cell phone—never to get them back.

The police are searching for him. There is a reward for his capture. A hired killer is stalking him. He is alone and anonymous in a huge, pitiless modern city. Adam has nowhere to go but down—underground. He decides to join that vast army of the disappeared and the missing who throng London’s lowest levels as he tries to figure out what to do with his life and struggles to understand the forces that have made it unravel so spectacularly. Adam's quest will take him all along the river Thames, from affluent Chelsea to the gritty East End, and on the way he will encounter all manner of London's denizens—aristocrats, prostitutes, evangelists, and policewomen—and version after new version of himself.

Ordinary Thunderstorms, William Boyd's electric follow-up to his award-winning Restless, is a profound and gripping novel about the fragility of social identity, the corruption at the heart of big business, and the secrets that lie hidden in the filthy underbelly of every city.

!1: Best Buy William Boyd is a great storyteller and wonderful novelist. I purchased this book after reading Stephen King's rave review. The story is poignant, and while somewhat far-fetched it remains a very solid read. Highly recommended. on Sale!

Ty Hauck is shattered by the news. A close friend from his past, along with her husband and daughter, has been brutally murdered in her home by vicious intruders. Now he will risk everything he loves to avenge her death. . . .

A wealthy banker, seeing his world about to crumble around him, knows his family is in unfathomable danger. . . .

A U.S. government agent watches the sudden bank transfers of millions in cash and suspects that this is the first step in a plot to unleash a wave of global panic. . . .

Ty Hauck hunts the murderer of a friend—and steps into the crosshairs of a sinister conspiracy—in this most electrifying novel yet from New York Times bestselling thriller master Andrew Gross

Private security investigator Ty Hauck, with Naomi Blum, a tenacious agent from the U.S. Department of Treasury, unravels the evidence that joins these seemingly unrelated events—revealing a reckless scheme that stretches from New York to London to central Europe and gives new meaning to the phrase "too big to fail." What began with a tragedy that opened a door to Hauck's past—a door that he thought was long closed—ends with a frantic race to avert a disaster that could shake the very security of our country—and even the world.

±1±: Best Buy First of all, I liked Reckless. No, not as much as the previous novels, but for what it is, it's fine. Characters are believable and there is some emotional resonance throughout, even with the "bad guys."

There've already been a number of good reviews here, so I'm not going to deal with plot at all. Instead, I'll deal with those "amusing mistakes." I write a bit myself and one thing I've learned that I must do in my work is not to forget the name of a character that I first wrote about sixteen chapters ago and am just now reintroducing. Or to be either careless or forgetful and wind up having a highway taking characters in the opposite direction from where I'm sending them. Gross didn't catch a couple of things here, and apparently neither did his editors. They're not consequential in any way, but it is a bid disconcerting to find a character declaring he's from one state when we've learned earlier that he was from another. It also doesn't really matter when the colors of a university's sports team are wrong--even the most careful writer can't research everything and our memories sometimes deceive us--but when the reader who knows the real colors comes across the error, he will certainly lose the rhythm and stall at that place for a while.

Still...I enjoyed the book. That doesn't mean that I believed it, but belief isn't really required for this kind of book.

(I have to admit though that Hauck's love life becomes rather tedious--for a couple of reasons.) on Sale!

±1±: Best Buy I'm enjoying this book so much I'm now looking for two earlier Kidd novels: The Fool's Run and The Empress File.
The main character, Kidd, is a computer expert whose legal occupation is painting and whose illegal one is industrial espionage. His sometime partner in crime is LuEllen, a burglar, who helps Kidd at significant risk to herself and without complaining. She's a thrill junkie -- which is why she is a burglar for a living -- and a really interesting character. In this story, a friend and fellow hacker is apparently shot during an attempted robbery but a closer look suggests he was set up. Kidd and LuEllen take on the bad guys and an alphabet soup of government agencies in their high-tech quest for justice. And the reader is wonderful!!! I could just SEE Kidd thanks to his amazing voice! on Sale!

±1±: Best Buy Most people know Kidd as an artist, but in his secret life he's an industrial spy who steals secrets from high tech firms and sells them to their competition. Kidd's world is shattered when his friend Master Hacker Bobby is murdered and his computer stolen. He's afraid there was something on Bobby's machine that will incriminate him.

Bobby had broken into the files of a government agency created because of the Homeland Security Act. It's supposed to develop sophisticated surveillance techniques to be used against terrorists, however its compiling dossiers on leading politicians and now a psychotic killer has that info and is using it against one politician after another.

Kidd wants to find the killer before the cops, because he wants Bobby's computer. However he'd like to avenge Bobby's death as well and if that means he has to bring down a killer and save the government to do it, well so be it.

Kidd is a refreshingly different kind of protagonist and this is a refreshingly different kind of thriller, well it's a lot like the others in the series before it, but other than that, it's different. In my opinion "The Hanged Man's Song" will make Kidd as popular as Sandford's Lucus Davenport. on Sale!

The brilliant new Lucas Davenport thriller from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author.

"Sandford's track record as a bestselling author is amazing, but it's not an accident," wrote Booklist of Wicked Prey. "His plotting is sharp, his villains are extraordinarily layered, and his good guys are always evolving.

And this time, there's a storm brewing...Very early, 4:45, on a bitterly cold Minnesota morning, three big men burst through the door of a hospital pharmacy, duct-tape the hands, feet, mouth, and eyes of two pharmacy workers, and clean the place out. But then things swiftly go bad, one of the workers dies, and the robbers hustle out to their truck-and find themselves for just one second face-to-face with a blond woman in the garage: Weather Karkinnen, surgeon, wife of an investigator named Lucas Davenport.

Did she see enough? Can she identify them? Gnawing it over later, it seems to them there is only one thing they can do: Find out who she is, and eliminate the only possible witness...

±1±: Best Buy As a diehard John Sandford fan, I always look forward to the next book in the Prey series. Having said that, the previous 2 books were somewhat of a let down for me. Lucas was showing no spunk or fight. The one thing I do like about the series is that everyone is ageing, not staying young.
In this book, John Sandford did not let me down. Lucas was getting his spunk back. All of the oldies were there (i.e. Virgil, Del ). It keeps you reading from page ONE.
This book was well worth my wait and the read... on Sale!
